 John Kleine
Executive Director, BPAMA
John G. Kleine was appointed BPAMA executive director in 2004 after a long and highly successful career in petroleum marketing. Most of his experience stems from a variety of executive positions with Amoco, where he was the recognized authority in the areas of business assessment, strategy, and operational tactics within the entrepreneurial-based channels of trade.
As regional vice president in the southeast, Amoco's most senior marketing role in that area, John led the company's largest and most profitable jobber organization from 1989 to 1999. Prior to this position John moved through a number of marketing and senior executive positions managing various business units and functions in the downstream business. Those units included real estate, business development, lubricants and TBA. Earlier in his career he held assignments in planning and strategy, retail operations, pricing, financial analysis, advertising, and training. Following his tenure with Amoco John became a consultant to the convenience store industry and worked as a group facilitator with Petroleum Marketers' Study Groups.
John's congenial personality mixed with his exceptional organizational skills and deep understanding of the business has made him the perfect choice to assume the role of executive director for BPAMA. Having intimate knowledge from both the jobber's perspective and BP's, John is highly skilled at impartially mediating the more challenging discussions between the two groups resulting in equitable resolution.
John earned a BA in economics from Drake University and is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Program for Management Development. In addition to his past professional affiliations as a board member of Autry Petroleum and Red Crown Marketing, and his role as Vice President and Partner of Global Petroleum Marketing Consulting, John is also active in social welfare and civic activities. He is a board member of Recovery Place of Savannah, an alcohol and drug treatment center, and he was an Attaché for the country of Mauritius during the Atlanta Olympics.
John lives in Savannah with his wife Susan. They have two married daughters.
